Name: Jo Kyung-Sook Age: 37 Sex: Male Profession: AFTER technician Location: Affiliations: Mantra Disposition: workaholic, intelligent, dad-jokes, humble
Character Background and Description Kyung-Sook is a Korean man of the middle class. His family is part of the lower class, but after he showed advanced technological aptitude and passed all the recruitment exams, he was hired by Mantra Corporation as an AFTER server technician. He lives in one of Mantra's worker dormitories and most of his (lacking) social life revolves around work. He moved from grunt work to a leading server technician very quickly, but his superiors have not promoted him in quite some time.
Most of his job centers around debugging and server maintenance, and he has a few employees who work underneath him. They work mainly in a Mantra office on one of the higher levels, but sometimes have to travel down to the server rooms on the closed-off levels to do hands-on maintenance. Their job requires strict non-disclosure agreements where they cannot talk about AFTER or the closed-off levels to anyone not immediately on the server teams or in superior positions. Talk about AFTER amongst employees is discouraged and quickly snuffed out to prevent leaks to the public and anti-Mantra ideas.
Kyung-Sook is a very smart but rather awkward man. His whole life revolves around work, and his free time is often consumed by thinking of ways to patch and upgrade the server. He was given a side role of looking into possible advancements for AFTER by one of his superiors, but was told that eh could not bring on any of his team, and that this research must be done quietly. When interacting with people, Kyung-Sook tries to tell jokes that often come off as corny, or he gets nervous when trying to connect on a personal level. Once he is focused on the roles as a technician though, he is a stout, concise leader and is respected by his team for clearly knowing what he's talking about.
His father died when he was a teenager in a hushed-up industry accident, so Kyung-Sook sends a percentage of each paycheck to his mother and younger brother to help provide. He in unmarried and without his own children, despite his mother's urging, because his role as a technician leaves him little room for family and life outside of the servers.
